Excel Tips and Tricks–Turn off Auto Hyperlinks

8. February 2012
Another Excel Tip for you from IT Brigade…

Problem: By default, Excel 2010 turns on Hyperlinks when you type an internet address or email into a cell.  Then when you click on the cell it creates an email or opens the webpage in your browser.  One of THE most annoying features ever!

Solution: Turn off Auto Hyperlinks as follows:

1. File menu

2. Options menu Item

3. Proofing tab

4. AutoCorrect Options… button

5. AutoFormat As You Type tab.

6. Uncheck Internet and network paths with hyperlinks (As you type).

7. Click Ok twice.

Note: this will not clear hyperlinks that are already embedded in your worksheet, just prevent new ones.
